Recently, Anyidi Payam was deserted due to the rampant insecurity caused by armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.
During his visit, Gai emphasised the importance of peace and development in the area and instructed the authorities to ensure security for the residents for the progress in the education system, road construction, among other services.
Gai applauded the church leaders, local chiefs, women and youth for their continued efforts toward fostering unity among themselves and neighbouring communities.
“We have a huge debt from our heroes and our youth. The President has entrusted me with the task of fostering peace in Jonglei state,” said Gai.
As part of national priorities outlined by President Salva Kiir, Governor Gai emphasised agriculture as a key area of focus for South Sudan.
He pointed out the abundance of Gum Arabic in Anyidi Payam, stressing that its production could create employment opportunities for local youth in the area.
“We must abandon tribal divisions and recognise that we are all brothers. Let there be peace in Jonglei State. Together, we can cool down this fire by holding hands and moving forward,” said Gai.
James Gai Makor, Bor County Commissioner, urged the community to begin cultivation, citing that agricultural development remains a top priority for food security.
“We must make sure that we utilise this fertile land well. Now that the rainy season has come, you all must make sure that we have a piece of land you are cultivating, and at the end of the season, you will know that you did something for yourself and your family,” said Makhor.
