JUBA – The speaker of parliament of South Sudan’s Jonglei State, Amer Ateny Alier, has this afternoon issued an order lifting the suspension of one of vocal lawmakers who were suspended by the governors in July following protest over controversial issue on civil servants’ salaries.
In August, Chagor suspended lawmakers Anter Bayak and Gatluak Gabriel John after parliamentary impeachment of finance minister whom the lawmakers had accused of corruption.
The two lawmakers are members of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) where Governor Denay comes from.
In the decree issued this afternoon, Hon. Amer lifted the suspension of Honorable Bayak effective October 6th 2022 after the lawmaker rendered an apology.
“In the exercise of powers conferred upon me by the conduct of business of Jonglei State Transitional Legislative Assembly regulations and after the written apology letter by Hon. Anter Bayak Kuol on his suspension order No: 08/2022. I Hon. Amer Ateny Alier do here by lifting your suspension and resume your Constitutional duties as usual, with effect from the date 6th October 2022,” the statement said.
