BOR – Jonglei State Police Commissioner, Maj. Gen. Elia Costa Augustino, has assured residents of a peaceful and secure Christmas and New Year celebration.
Speaking to Sudans Post on Sunday, Gen. Costa outlined their comprehensive security plan to ensure festivities proceed without incident.
“We have more than 200 forces we have prepared from different units. We have about twenty Churches here all these Churches we are going to deploy the forces there and that will start from 24th to 25th during the prayers,” he said. Said Costa.
While awaiting the state government’s budget approval for the operation, Costa emphasized their preparedness.
“Our security plan is complete and will be presented soon. We have organized forces from the army, prison service, police, CID, and NSS to ensure everyone’s safety during the holidays,” he said, indicating that the security plan covers a period from December 20th, 2023, to January 1st, 2024.
“That plan will start from the 20th of December 2023 to the 1st January 2024. But now we still have this patrol during night and day time inside the residential areas, main roads and public places because during this time this is the time the criminals randomly commit crimes,” he said.
The state police commissioner also urged the public to celebrate responsibly and avoid celebratory gunfire.
“We strictly prohibit any shooting in the air during Christmas and New Year. Firing guns can cause unnecessary panic and fear among the community,” Costa said, assuring that there are traffic control measures in place.
“Traffic police will be deployed to manage vehicle and motorcycle movement during Christmas and New Year celebrations, ensuring everyone’s safety on the roads,” he said.
