JUBA – A Juba University student has reportedly been shot dead this afternoon by one of his colleagues who is widely believed by many students as a National Security Service (NSS) undercover agent at the university.

On Friday, a small protest broke out at the University of Juba over deepening economic crisis. The protest called for government action in ending corruption which the protesters blamed for the economic downtrend.

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, a Juba University student said his colleague who he identified as Yuel was found lying behind the Juba University’s main campus just before Hai Thawra at 11:00 AM shortly after he was shot dead.

“Ayuel was killed at 11:00 AM this morning and when we heard the gunshot, we rushed to Hai Thawra just outside Juba University and when we reached the scene, we found him lying and we rushed him to a clinic in Hai Thawra but died almost immediately when we arrived at the hospital,” the student said.

“We know the suspect because there is a guy from the National Security Service studying at the University of Juba. He acts as a agent and he several students who have disappeared are killed by him,” he added.

The National Security Service on Friday and Saturday arrested at least five students as well as one journalist over the protest. The NSS reportedly warned student leaders of inciting the situation in light of the ongoing economic crisis.
