AWEIL – The Education ministry in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state has been advised to ensure children remain indoors until school re-opening on Tuesday next week.
The Director General in the state Education ministry, Santino Bol Akot said they would adhere to directives from the national ministry regarding school reopening.
Excessive heat waves prompted nationwide closure of schools on March 18, 2024.
Akot said they have been instructed to keep children indoors and reduce school activities, including not allowing children to play in the open during break time.
“What I want to emphasize to our teachers is that the schools are reopening as Ministry of Health and Education have released the instruction to observe the instructions, such as not allowing the learners to get dehydrated due to the high temperatures which are being observed,” he explained.
Also emphasized is ensuring that all windows remain open during classroom hours.
Akot encouraged children to drink enough water and carry water bottles in situation where the learning environment lacks a borehole or any water point.
The Health ministry said temperatures will be monitored with regular updates given.
