JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has accused unnamed person of working to pull him from behind, saying this is one of the reasons South Sudan is having difficulties in implementing the revitalized peace agreement.
Addressing the catholic faithful during a public mass at Dr. John Garang Mausoleum organized for arrival of Vatican Secretary of State in South Sudan, Kiir reiterated his commitment to the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement but said somebody is pulling him behind in his efforts to realized peace.
“I always say that when you go forward and somebody is pulling you from behind, you cannot reach even five meters you cannot cross,” the South Sudanese head of state told the faithful on Thursday afternoon.
“We are implementing the agreement and there people who are not allowing us to go smoothly. They intend to drain us from the road that we have taken,” he added.
‘MANY VICE-PRESIDENTS’
The South Sudanese president lamented the peace agreement for creating a bloated government with many vice president that are dividing up his positions and the country saying the intention to have many deputies is for his power to be divided up.
“These many vice presidents, for what?” he asked.
“It is for the division of the powers of the president so that anyone has his own power and that means dividing the country into small countries very small and we will not accept that,” he said.
He however said that he will commit to implement the agreement despite the many challenges.
“But we will do that, implementation of the agreement is the most important thing and we are working for it,” he added.
