Kiir arrives in Bor, inaugurates new building at Dr. John Garang Memorial University

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has arrived in Bor town, the capital of the country’s Jonglei State, where he is expected to inaugurate a building at Dr. John Garang Memorial University this afternoon, according to senior government officials.

JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has arrived in Bor town, the capital of the country’s Jonglei State, where he is expected to inaugurate a building at Dr. John Garang Memorial University this afternoon, according to senior government officials.

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, Jonglei State information minister John Manyuon told Sudans Post that President Salva Kiir Mayardit has arrived in the state capital Bor and the ceremony to inaugurate the building was ongoing.

“The president yes has arrived in the capital of Jonglei State which is Bor. He is coming to inaugurate a new building in the university, the Dr. John Garang De Mabior Memorial University,” the senior government official said on phone from Bor town.

“That ceremony to inaugurate the building is currently ongoing and the president is there and in a few minutes he will officially inaugurate the building and from Monday, or tomorrow even, the staff will be allowed to use the new building,” the government official further added.

Yesterday, Manyuon who doubles as the government spokesman for Jonglei state said the president was expected there and as such preparations from the government as well as from the university were ongoing to receive him.

“Tomorrow (Thursday), the president is coming to the state headquarters of Bor to inaugurate a building at the Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology,” he told Radio Tamazuj.

“It is the main purpose because the president is coming and it is actually a fresh construction that has taken place,” he added.
