JUBA – South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Lady Ayen Mayardit joined mourners at Juba International Airport today to pay their final respects to former Lakes State Governor Matur Chut Dhuol, who passed away last week at the age of 69.
Chut succumbed to kidney failure, leaving behind a legacy of service to his nation. President Kiir acknowledged his contributions.
Chut’s career spanned both political and military spheres. He served as a caretaker Governor of Lakes State in 2013 and later assumed the governorship of the now-defunct Western Lakes State in 2017.
A family representative, Engineer Gabriel Makur Amuor, eulogized Chut as “a nationalist and statesman” whose “wisdom and leadership will be deeply missed.”
The late governor was then laid to rest in his hometown of Pachong, Rumbek East, Lakes State yesterday.
