JUBA, JULY 14, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday called for an immediate ceasefire and end to the ongoing conflict in Sudan where thousands have been killed and millions have been displaced.

Kiir who was speaking during the meeting of Sudan neighbors organized by Egyptian President Abdelfattah el-Sisi in Cairo yesterday said his call for a ceasefire and end to conflict means “prioritizing the interests of the Sudanese people.”

The head of state said that any solution to the crisis should respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of South Sudan’s northern neighbor and warned against foreign intervention in Sudan of “any kind”.

“Our priorities include finding African solutions to the continent’s crises,” he said.

The summit seeks to set effective frameworks to peacefully settle the crisis in coordination with other regional and international tracks.

South Sudan’s presidential minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the state-own South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation that “it is important to bring together the different factions and parties to engage in constructive discussions to find a path towards peace.”

The Cairo summited ended with call from the leaders for continued cooperation, support, and diplomatic efforts to ensure the implementation of the recommendations of the meeting.
