JUBA – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has berated his first deputy Dr. Riek Machar Teny and described him as an unpredictable politician who he said has refused to apologize to the people of South Sudan despite starting the conflict in 2013.

The president made the remarks during an interview which is still being aired on the Kenyan Citizen TV with Journalist Jeff Koinange who asked him of how his relationship with Machar looks like currently after a second return to Juba since 2013.

“We are good…..we talk [but] we are not that so close like we used to be, simply because he is unpredictable. But these days, the last few days, he has been good,” the South Sudanese president said of Machar.

Asked if he owes the people of South Sudan an apology, Kiir said he has apologized many times, not because of having done anything wrong, but for the sake of taking responsibility despite hesitation by Machar who he said had started the war to apologize.

“I have apologized many times. In front of Riek Machar, I apologize. He never apologized. I apologized not because I have done anything wrong. But the person who started the fighting has been keeping quit,” he said.
