JUBA, MAY 30, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the security organs to deploy the Necessary Unified Forces (NUF) provided for in the revitalized peace agreement, according to a senior government official.

In statements to the state-own South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs Tut Gatluak said that Kiir has directed for the deployment of the unified forces which were graduated more than five months ago.

“The deployment of the graduated Unified Forces will begin soon, and the country is stable, despite isolated incidents in some areas,” he said on Friday, adding that phase two of the security arrangements will begin in two weeks’ time.

Kiir’s office said the president and the security chief starting with the army chief, police chief and external security chief reviewed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and director for its expeditious implementation.

“The meeting deliberated on ways of strengthening the nation’s security network, with the view of maintaining law and order in all corners of the country,” the presidency statement said.

The statement added that Kiir “has directed the security organs to expedite the implementation of the critical issues of the Chapter Two of the Peace deal.”
