JUBA — South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a Republican Decree replacing the governor of the restive Lakes state Makur Kulang.
The decree was announced on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC).
In a separate decree, Kiir named the current director of military intelligence Ring Tueny – also know as Jena Fil – as the incoming governor.
No reason was given as to why the Lakes state governor was removed.
He was appointed in July last year when Kiir and opposition leaders agreed to terms for division of states government as provided for in the revitalized peace agreement.
Tueny has served in various government positions one of which was being governor for the defunct Eastern Lakes State prior to his appointment as director of military intelligence.
