JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a republican decree forming a committee to investigate last week’s violent in which armed youth from Twic County of Warrap State attacked Aneet Market in the disputed Abyei Administrative Area.

In a decree read out on the state-own South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir formed a ten-member committee headed by the country’s Vice-President for Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi and deputized by Unity State governor Nguen Manytuil.

The committee also includes senior South Sudan government officials.

Earlier this month, violence between armed attackers from Twic and residents of Aneet area of Warrap State resulted in the killing and setting on fire of houses and shop inside Aneet sparking condemnation among the country’s citizens.

About 15 people were allegedly killed while several others were wounded. These figures could not independently be verified by Sudans Post, but officials in Aneet have indicated that the number could even be higher.
