The construction of the grand multi-purpose building in Jebel suburb of Juba was launched in February 2022 and completed on 30 June this year.
The 12-floor building with a modern recreational facility and conference center will help accelerate South Sudan’s journey to meet key monetary requirements under the East African Community (EAC).
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Juba, Kiir described the event as a significant achievement by the Bank of South Sudan.
“As we prepare to celebrate the most important day in the history of South Sudan, that is Independence, the Independence Day, I present new headquarters and I will give it to our citizens,” Kiir said.
He said the independence granted to the Bank of South Sudan will allow it to deliver on its core mandate
“Two, also thank the people and government of Central Equatoria, especially the Jinderu community for the solid support of the bank,” he said.
He encouraged the staff of the Bank of South Sudan to support the leadership and cooperate with the other institutions to advance policies of the government.
“Finally, Your Excellency, I urge the government and other citizens to focus on development, improving economic growth, promoting peace and social harmony while contributing to regional stability.”
James Alic Garang, the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, said the work signifies years of dedication and shared commitment inspired by the Bank’s vision to reimagine its workspace as an environment that motivates staff to serve with unparalleled excellence and professionalism.
“This headquarter symbolizes our commitment to transform the Bank of South Sudan into a state-of-the-art central bank, while reinforcing its position as the singular regulator of the financial institution,” Dr. Alic said.
Alic said it also signifies and serves as a symbol of progress and innovation in the financial sector, all with the implication to attract investment and foster growth.
