JUBA — President Salva Kiir Mayardit has this evening left Juba for Ugandan capital Kampala where he is expected to attend a regional heads of state meeting of East and West Africa.
Several government officials told Sudans Post on Tuesday that Kiir would travel on Wednesday morning for the meeting where climate and migration issues are expected to me discussed.
“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday left Juba for Kampala to attend regional Inter-Ministerial conference, on Migration, Environment and Climate change,” the presidency said.
Ateny Wek Ateny, Kiir’s press secretary, said “the regional leaders will also discuss and adopt one stand on Nile River dredging, which will be presented at the 27th UN Climate Change conference that will be held in Sharm-el-Sheik, Egypt, from 6 to 18 November 2022.”
According to the presidency, “The President is expected to hold sideline meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, one of the guarantors of the Revitalized Peace Agreement to discuss the proposed roadmap that will pave way for transitional period.”
Kiir was accompanied by ministers of presidential affairs, cabinet affairs, foreign affairs, interior and environment and forestry.
Kiir was seen off at Juba international airport by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
