JUBA – A presidency meeting that would have brought together President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his five deputies including SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny has been indefinitely postponed, officials with knowledge of the development say.
Speaking to Sudans Post, a government official at the presidency said the meeting has been postponed because the president has a different schedule, but very soon will announce the date for the meeting to discuss the roadmap.
“The president is having a very busy schedule this week and next week, it is after these two weeks that the president will give a new date for the meeting of the presidency to discuss the meeting,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
For his part, a senior SPLM-IO official said they have been informed of the decision by the president to postpone the meeting and that a new date will have to be fixed for the meeting.
“The president’s office has informed the SPLM-IO of the postponement of the meeting. This is what I have just heard from my comrades in the office of the first vice president. So I think the meeting is not taking place now,” he said.
