Last month, the presidency formed a committee to develop a roadmap that would guide the party signatories to the revitalized peace deal in the implementation of remaining tasks of the agreement in order to pave way for conduct of free and fair elections.
Several government officials said in separate statements to the media in July that Kiir and Machar had agreed to extend the lifespan of their term in office for at least two years with shorter of time to implement the remaining peace tasks being the only excuse.
In a statement this afternoon, the presidency announced that journalists are invited to cover the announcement of the peace roadmap in an even the presidency said will be attended by senior government officials as well as members of the diplomatic community.
“All representatives of Media Houses are cordially invited to Freedom Hall, Juba on Thursday, 4th August 2022, at 10:00 Am for an event regarding the Roadmap on the Transitional Period. The event will also be live on SSBC,” the presidency said in a statement this afternoon.
The statement said that senior “Government officials, Members Diplomatic Corps, Members of Parliament, Civil Society and all Stakeholders to the Revitalized Peace Agreement are invited to attend the event.”
