A senior member of the main armed opposition group SPLM-IO under Machar said talks were indefinitely adjourned in February because Kiir don’t want Machar to leave the country.

JUBA — Previously planned meeting between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his first deputy Dr. Riek Machar Teny in Uganda has allegedly failed because of reservations put forth on Machar’s travel to Uganda by Kiir who reportedly believes that Machar may escape and refuse to return to the country.

A senior member of the main armed opposition group SPLM-IO under Machar said talks were indefinitely adjourned in February because Kiir don’t want Machar to leave the country.

“When we were informed, we accepted the invitation and we were preparing for a team to travel along with the FVP to Uganda so as to attend that very important meeting to iron out issues to do with the transitional period,” one opposition official who requested not to be named said.

“But because of the insistence by President Salva Kiir Mayardit that Dr. Riek should only delegate officials to the meeting over fears that he may not return home has failed that initiative which would have paved way for clear path towards the end of the transitional period,” he added.

The meeting, Ugandan officials had said in February, was meant to bring together the parties to the revitalized peace agreement as stalemate over crucial talks has continued throwing the possibilities for an election to unknown fate.

Kiir and his group are calling for elections at the end of the transitional period, but Machar’s SPLM-IO and other opposition groups sees conduct of election not possible without the implementation of key provisions of the revitalized peace agreement especially chapter two of the deal.

Regional and international communities have called for timely implementation of the agreement so as to enable for conduct of a free and fair election, but Kiir has blamed the international community’s arms embargo and sanctions for delay of the agreement.

You guys must understand that, Dr. Riek Machar Teny has been going back and forth for 30 years and the President Salva Kiir is not trusting him and this is why he describes Dr. Riek Machar as unpredicted man. The real question is, how long should we seeking outside Africa help?

All these countries surrounding us have their own problems but they sat down to resolve it. Dr. Riek Machar Teny would have ruled South Sudan nation if he did not destroy his own record during the SPLA and SPLM. As a human being, we judge others based on your records, history, background, sincerity, your personality and good understanding among your own people. I am going to vote for another Nuer politician but not Dr. Riek Machar Teny, not Dr. Lam Akol Ajwain, not Salva Kiir Mayardit but the person who will bring all different ethnic groups, the person who doesn’t believe in divisive and also should be the leader who has more skills like honorable Nhial Deng Nhial, another John Garang of Northern Bhar El Ghazal region and maybe governor of Unity State Dr. Nguyen Monytuil. Honorable Nhial Deng Nhial is the man who lead SPLM delegates to peace talks in Kenya and he did very well and this is why we have gained our independence from Northern Sudan through negotiations led by Dr. Nhial Deng Nhial.

People of South Sudan may arrest Kiir soon and dispatch him in one cell with his vice Dr. Riek Machar Teny and let them fight
