This morning, hundreds of citizens in Unity State stormed Nam River and started what they call ‘manual dredging’ exercise to remove weeds and mud impeding water flow, something they say will help ease floods that has displaced around 80 per cent of Unity State residents.
But in a statement, Hon. Buay Keake Turoal, a former lawmaker representing one of the constituencies in Unity State in the TNLA claimed that Governor Nguen Manytuil was behind the citizens who decided to take dredging into their own hands and should be dismissed immediately.
“This is unacceptable exercise, the state government of Unity State should be bold enough [against any] opposition to the Presidential order suspending the dredging with the aim of seeking recommendations from experts,” Buay said in a statement seen by Sudans Post.
“The attempt to incite the local population to disrespect the order of the His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit by Unity State Government of Joseph Monytuel Wejang is unacceptable and he should be fired immediately,” he added.
The former lawmaker claimed that the governor “is leading from behind instead of leading from the front. Joseph Monytuel Wejang should have led the people in hand dredging the river by joining them instead of influencing and inciting them.”
It is with heavy heart to hear brother betrayed brother because of civil matter
Governor is civil ruler who should participate in any protest for the sake of getting service from country with his civilian.
If some one want position of other person they should come at the time when people are not crying for help, other at laughing
God look into our situation. Professor Akec ,Buay keke whose resident of rubkona are the most villages destroyed by flooding. He is from turkill village.
I am totally disagree with you Mr. Stephen Madit Badeng.
First of all, the process of digging or dredging River Nile and others Local swamps was not brought to Public discussion. Second to that, there are many options the State and Federal government in South Sudan should have taken for example, we can make a man made Lakes within our country South Sudan instead of clearing River Nile all the way to Northern Sudan and remember, the Egyptian government is trying to drain billion and billions cubic water so that, the people who are benefiting from this water will be suffering.
Thirdly, we must not be rushing to conclusion when the problem of water is the lifeline for not only this our generation but also we don’t know what future of our next generations therefore, the professor Akec and thousands others people who have been speaking should not be blamed.
Yes, there is indication that, the climate change had started in South Sudan however, we will not be fooling in the name of flooding while, we don’t know exactly the future of our generation to come. The government must considering making a man made Lakes in Unity State, Jonglei State and Bhar El Ghazal Regions. The wetlands are very important, because its makesv attractions to rainfall and if it is dry like Middle East countries perhaps, there will be no rain pouring water on earth. Most of the South Sudanese citizens are dependent on farming and livestock. I thought Dr. Joseph Nguen Monytuiel was smart leader but I can tell he is lacking understanding special, what the future of our next generations look like if we allow Egyptian government to clearing our River Nile all the way to Northern Sudan.
I will not supporting the process of dredging River Nile and others Local swamps Rivers to flow into Northern Sudan and Egypt’s man made Lakes. The man made Lakes will hold a billion of water cubic if it is dug deeper. Also we can makes small Dam nearby the communities because draining water away to River Nile is very dangerous one. Also clearing muddy and wedded will mean, the water in the River Nile will move very quickly with fish and others things we don’t know. The government can move citizens to highlands areas that is another option I mean there are many ways of protecting citizens from flooding but clearing River Nile. Egyptian government use to write a check of 43 million dollars to Sudan’s government for centuries and Southern Sudanese people were not benefiting from our water but as we become a nation then, we must not be fooled by Egyptian government.
Finally, although the governor of Unity State is supporting the process of dredging River Nile and others Swamps, they must be told to thinks about million of cattles, farming activities, people themselves and our animals in the forest whereby each one can consume thousand water in one day. Our future and the next generations futures are dependent on what we gets from our water.
This nonsense must stop, the honourable governor did not incite anyone to go for manual dredging, it was the citizens of Unity state that have recognized and found themselves abandoned by their belove president since the national government action decided to strangled the continuous commencement of the dredging project, regardless of the consequences, the citizens have to do what it take to see themselves liberated against flooding.
Mr president, your decision against dredging project made the citizens of Unity state feel betrayed and abandoned by your leadership, do not put that blames of manual dredging on the governor of Unity state, the consequences lies on your head.
If you didn’t allow your mind being completely invaded by the minister of chaos #Akecj alongside his Jama juba intellectual adolescence victims, the general cleanness or dredging of the #Yoahnyaang (Naam river) would have been completed successfully without any inconvenience by now.
I would like to assure you that any decision you take against the honourable governor of Unity state because of such false accusations, shall only regard you a worse enemy of Unity state progress. Your master planner had engraved the civil population since you disfunctionalized the continuous operation of the dredging project in Unity state.
Thank you
