JUBA, February 1st 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Tuesday night issued a republican decree appointing a new minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management in the transitional government of national unity.

In the decree readout on the state-own South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation, Kiir named Albino Akol Atak, the spokesman of the Other Political Parties (OPP) and secretary-general of the African National Congress (ANC) party.

The senior opposition official replaces Peter Mayen Majongdit who was sacked by the president in November last year, allegedly for embezzling funds meant for hundreds of thousands of citizens affected by floods across the world’s youngest nation.
