JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed for the reopening of the Juba-based think-tank, the Sudd Institute, which was closed by members of the country’s national security service last August.

This was after the South Sudan National Security Service (NSS) accused the think-tank of working to undermine the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement by attempting to bring down the Kiir-led government.

In a directive addressed to the chairperson of board of directors of the Sudd Institute, minister of presidential affairs, Barnaba Marial Benjamin, said the president has directed for the opening of the think-tank with immediate effects.

“I write to you today to inform you of the decision of H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit that the Sudd Institute be allowed to resume its duties,” Marial said in the directive seen by Sudans Post.

He said President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s decision to reopen the think-tank “has been communicated to the relevant authorities.”

“As always, Dr Pauline, please accept the assurance of my highest regards and consideration,” added the minister.
