JUBA — South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Sunday evening called Sudanese military ruler Gen. Abdelfattah Al Burhan to congratulate him following a deal with Minister Abdallah Hamdok which comes one month after the military took over the government.
In a statement, the ministry of foreign affairs of South Sudan said Kiir called Al Burhan to congratulate him on the deal the statement hailed as ‘landmark’.
“President Kiir has already called H.E. Al-Burhan and thanked him for having chosen the path of dialogue. He is likewise scheduled to pass the same words of appreciation to H.E. Hamdok in a call scheduled for 10 am tomorrow morning,” the statement extended to Sudans Post said in part.
“As stated in his last message to them, President Kiir’s confidence in the wisdom of the Sudanese leaders is firmly rooted in his knowledge of Sudan’s culture and history of reconciliation,” the statement added.
The South Sudanese president appealed “to H.E. Al-Burhan and H.E. Hamdok to continue the dialogue with all other Political Forces who have yet to sign the agreement. He hopes they too recognize the importance of this historic accomplishment.”
