The presidential order, seen by Sudans Post, did not specify whether Majur was being prepared for a new position within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
“Pursuant to the provision of sections 25(1) and 23(a) of the Diplomatic and Consular Service Act, 2011, I Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, do hereby promote Amb. David Amuor Majur from Grade Three (3) to Grade Two (2) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation,” the letter stated.
The promotion was not officially announced on the presidential press unit page or by the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC). However, multiple sources close to Majur confirmed the authenticity of the letter to Sudans Post.
This promotion, occurring just two months after Majur’s appointment, has fueled speculation that President Kiir is preparing him for a new role within the foreign ministry and is seeking a replacement for his current media aide.
Majur, who was appointed in mid-February, replaced Lily Adhieu Martin, daughter of SPLA freedom fighter Martin Manyiel, who had held the position since 2022, succeeding long-term press secretary Ateny Wek Ateny.
President Kiir is known for frequent appointments and dismissals of officials. Last year, he appointed an office executive director on a Friday and then dismissed him in absentia the following Monday.
