JUBA — South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has this evening received a long-awaited roadmap that would guide the government’s implementation of pending provisions of the agreement paving way for peaceful, fair and credible elections.
In a statement, the presidency said the roadmap was developed by a committee formed by President Kiir headed by the presidential advisor on security affairs Tutkew Gatluak Manimeh and include cabinet minister Martin Elia Lomuro and information minister Michael Makuei.
“President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday received a Roadmap that will guide the Country towards the end of the Transitional Period and pave way for the Country to conduct a Peaceful and Democratic Elections,” the presidency statement reads in part.
“The Roadmap was presented to H. E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit by the Committee he tasked to look into the status of implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement, that includes the implemented, ongoing and the outstanding provisions, and come up with a Roadmap that will guide the Country towards the end of the Transitional Period in a peaceful manner and to conduct a Democratic Elections that will usher in an Elected Government,” it added.
The statement said that the president further directed the committee to present the roadmap to a meeting of the presidency which is taking place next week.
“Having been presented with the Roadmap, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit directed the committee to present the document in a meeting of the Presidency scheduled for next week,” the statement added.
In statements following the meeting, Lomoro stressed that “it has not been an easy process looking through the status of ongoing implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement, consulting various institutions and stakeholders.”
