Kiir reconstitutes National Council for Higher Education

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a Republican Decree reconstituting the National Council for Higher Education which will now be headed by the minister higher education, science and technology.

JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a Republican Decree reconstituting the National Council for Higher Education which will now be headed by the minister higher education, science and technology.

The decree said Minister of Higher Education Science and Technology Gabriel Chanson Lew Chang will serve as the chairperson of the Council.

Council members will include minister of presidential affairs, minister of general education and instruction, minister of labour, and the country’s minister of finance and planning.

Others members of the Council include Chairperson of the Juba University Council, Chairperson of the Bahr el Ghazal University Council, Chairperson of the Upper Nile University Council, Chairperson of Rumbek University Council, and Chairperson of the University Council of Dr. John Garang Memorial University of science and technology.

Kiir formed the 41-member council in 2016 with membership of other key officials such as the head of the national assembly, the central bank governor and an undersecretary from the finance minister.
