JUBA — South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has rejected a request by General Simon Gatwech Dual to replace main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny as first vice-president, two opposition sources close to General Gatwech have just told Sudans Post.
Last week, when General Gatwech made a declaration removing Machar as the leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition and installing himself as the new SPLA-IO chairman and commander in chief, the controversial opposition commander urged President Salva Kiir to remove Machar as First Vice President.
However, Machar is mentioned by name as the person who would occupy the seat of the first vice president in the revitalized peace agreement. This was designed in a way to make it hard for defectors to replace him as it happen in the scenario of 2016 in which then opposition-nominated minister of mining Taban Deng Gai replaced Machar as first vice president following days of fighting in Juba.
Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, a senior opposition source in Magenis told Sudans Post that President Salva Kiir has informed Gatwech through an unnamed messenger who was in Magenis two days ago that it is not possible to remove Machar at this time saying he will only welcome gesture to accept integration into the SSPDF.
“Some people came to Magenis two days ago and they brought the message of President Salva Kiir and what he told General Simon Gatwech was that the president is not ready to remove Riak because he is mentioned in the agreement as the sole person who shall be the FVP,” the source said on condition of anonymity.
Another source confirmed the claims and said President Salva Kiir “has only said he will only accept requests such as integration into the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces which he think will be the only option that will be easy for now.”

Its very unfortunate and so saddening that the politics of our country is being held by the minds that are filled with nothing else but trash and scraps of sensitivity. the evidence is; meaningless groups have continued to be born every in the midst of peace process; but they are actually striving for their own bellys.
