JUBA — South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has this evening issued a Republican Decree replacing the deputy governor of the restive South Sudan’s Warrap state Ateny Mayor who was appointed on the ticket of OPP.

The decree read out on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) did not cite reasons for the sacking.

In a separate decree, Kiir appointed Rebecca Oduor Ukech, as the new deputy governor.

Ayen is the only governor or deputy governor who was not born in the state she was serving as deputy governor. She is however a Dinka Atout politician from Lakes state, but married to former minister of humanitarian affairs Joseph Lual Acuil.

She is a close associate of former OPP leader and incumbent minister of humanitarian affairs Peter Mayen, as both of them belong to the People’s Liberal Party.
