In his inaugural decree broadcasted on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir dismissed Jacob Akech from his position as deputy governor of Jonglei State.
Subsequently, the president appointed former state minister of animal resources, Atong Kuol Manyang Juk, as Akech’s replacement.

In Upper Nile state, Kiir removed Ayong Awer Lual from the role of deputy governor and appointed Deng Joh as the new deputy governor.
Joh will now be the most senior member of the ruling SPLM party in the state.
