JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday night issued a number of presidential decrees replacing the undersecretary of the ministry of culture, museum & national heritage, and the minister of information for Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

In his first decree broadcasted on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir sacked Kuach Weng Wuol as the undersecretary of the national ministry of culture, museum, and national heritage.

In a subsequent decree, the South Sudanese president appointed Amer Madol Majak as the new undersecretary of the ministry.

In another decree, Kiir appointed Garang Zechariah Lual of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM-IG) to the position of the minister of information for Northern Bahr el Ghazal State which has been vacant since last year.

Lual replaces William Anyuon Kuol who was removed from the position and subsequently appointed as the national minister of trade and industry in November 2023.

Kiir did not however give reasons for the changes, apart from the presidential powers provided for in the transitional constitution and the revitalized peace agreement he signed with various opposition groups in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in September 2018.
