Kiir revokes appointment of lawmaker he appointed 2 days ago

JUBA – President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday night issued a Republican Decree revoking the appointment of a an elected lawmaker he reappointed into the Revitalized Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) on Saturday.

Henry Stephen Danga, a lawmaker who was elected during the 2010 elections, was reappointed via a presidential decree to represent Central Equatoria state in the peace parliament on Saturday night along with 35 other officials on the ticket of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).

In yet another decree, the South Sudanese president appointed Hon. Anita Morsan of Eastern Equatoria State and Hon. John Madeng Chan of Jonglei State, both from the ruling SPLM, to the TNLA to replace members whose appointments were revoked.

Kiir on Saturday issued several republic decrees revoking the appointment of at least 35 lawmakers representing the ruling SPLM faction. This comes after popularly elected lawmakers were left out when the president reconstituted the parliament in May.

Kiir also on Saturday reconstituted the Council of States appointing at 100 politicians from various parties to the revitalized peace agreement to the upper house of the South Sudan parliament.

The reconstitution of the both houses brings to end disagreements over who should be appointed into parliament among the politicians making up the SPLM faction under President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
