JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has dismissed the first undersecretary of the ministry of finance and planning, Malual Tap Diew, according to a presidential decree readout on the state-own SSBC.
Diew was appointed to the position in October last year, replacing Kuol Daniel. Before that, he served as finance and investment minister for Unity State.
Garang Majak Bol has been appointed as the new first undersecretary for finance, according to another presidential decree.
Bol previously held the same position between 2019 and 2021.
Kiir has a history of dismissing officials without giving reasons, a practice that has become common in the world’s youngest nation.
The sacking comes at a critical time for South Sudan, with inflation soaring and the black market exchange rate reaching 4,300 South Sudanese pounds per 1 U.S. dollar.
