JUBA – President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday evening issued a republic decree sacking the undersecretary of the ministry of health Dr. Mayen Machut Achiek and replaced him with Dr. Victoria Stephen Majur, a former program host at South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation TV.
The outgoing senior ministry of health official was appointed in June last year by the president to replace Makur Matur Koriom who was then in an apparent disagreement with minister Elizabeth Achuei after allegedly embezzling $30,000 mean for COVID-19 respond.
Dr. Mayen was the Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Juba.
In the decree read out on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir dismissed Dr. Mayen without giving reasons.
President Kiir in a separate republic decree appointed Dr. Victoria Stephen Majur as the incoming undersecretary.
Dr. Victoria was a journalist working for the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) and was the host of the weekly health program known as “Ask The Doctor” on the state-own television channel.
Currently, she us a board member of South Sudan General Medical Council established by the Council of Ministers in 2015 and also of the First Lady’s charity organisation, Concern for Women and Children.
In 2016, she was appointed by a presidential decree as a member of board of South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation.
