Kiir tasks Council of States with resolving sub-national violence

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the leadership of the country’s transitional council of states to visit states to establish causes of ongoing conflicts to help resolve the sub-national violence.

JUBA — South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the leadership of the country’s transitional council of states to visit states to establish causes of ongoing conflicts to help resolve the sub-national violence.

In a statement, the presidency said Kiir met with the speaker of the council of states Deng Deng along with his two deputies and directed the legislative body to visit the states and the administrative areas.

“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has today (Wednesday, 25th May 2022),  met with the leadership of Council of States comprising of the Speaker and his two deputies, and a prominent elder Angelo Beda to discuss matters pertaining to how to address the issues of the States and Special Administrative areas,” the presidency statement reads in part.

Kiir told the lawmakers during the meeting that was also attended by the cabinet minister Martin Elia Lomoro to immediately visit the states to establish the causes of the violence there.

“During the meeting, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit directed  the leadership of the Council of States to visit the various States and Administrative Areas that are undergoing crisis to establish the causes of such continuous crisis in order  to reach final solutions,” the presidency statement said.
