JUBA — South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit who is also the chair of the ruling SPLM faction has ordered all newly-appointed lawmakers representing the group the recently-reconstituted parliament to go to Freedom Hall for an urgent meeting with him on Friday.
According to a senior SPLM official who spoke to Sudans Post on condition of anonymity because she is not allowed to speak to the media on the matter, the meeting will take place this morning at Freedom Hall and all the invited lawmakers are to wear red SPLM T-Shirts.
“H.E. President Salva Kiir has called for an urgent meeting of the SPLM appointed members of the reconstituted national legislative assembly and council of States on Friday morning at Freedom Hall,” the official said from Juba.
“All members are requested to come in wearing SPLM uniform of the party,” the official further added.
Kiir reconstituted the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) in May and the reconstituted Transitional Council of States earlier this month, appointing 550 politicians into parliament.
The ruling party is accounted for over 300 of the appointed while the rest goes to the many opposition groups including the SPLM-IO led by First Vice President led by Dr. Riek Machar that have over 100 representatives.
Asked over the agenda of the meeting, the official said: “That has not been revealed to the members of the parliament and we will hear from the president when the meeting is convened tomorrow.”
