JUBA – South Sudan president Salva Kiir will – likely next week – issue an important decree on the number and boundaries of states, a senior government official said this evening.
This afternoon, Kiir met the governors of the 32 states and briefed them about the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and the dispute on the number of states which is preventing the parties from forming a transitional government.
“The President has invited us to meet him because he will take a very important order on the number of states in the country so as to realize peace,” one aide to a governor told this website this evening.
The parties are expected to form the unity government next week, but only if the main armed opposition group SPLM-IO agree too as there is a dispute on the government formation without determination of the number and boundaries of states.
Below is this evening’s statement by the South Sudan Presidential Unit (PPU).
