The statement seen by Sudans Post said that Kiir will hold talks with Putin on bilateral relations and will discuss the implementation process of the revitalized peace agreement signed to end the civil war in September 2018.
“President Salva Kiir has travelled to Russia on a state visit to Moscow to engage in bilateral talks with President Vladimir Putin to build on the two countries bilateral relations,” the presidency statement reads in part.
Presidential affairs minister who also accompanied the president said that Kiir “will explain the process and implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement and the forthcoming elections in 2024”.
Marial also said that the talk will also discuss “the lifting of arms embargo and targeted sanctions on individuals.”
Kiir was accompanied by senior government officials and was seen off at Juba International Airport by his first deputy and opposition leader Riek Machar Teny.
