JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has this morning left the capital Juba heading to the United Arab Emirates’ economic city of Dubai after an invitation of the government of UAE, the presidency has said in a statement.

This comes several months after the South Sudanese head of state sent a team of at least 50 senior government officials including ministers and senior security officials ahead of his visit.

“His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic has today (Friday, 18th February 2022) left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend the Dubai Expo at the invitation of the Government of UAE,” the presidency said in a statement.

“On his three-day working visit, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit is expected to participate in Dubai Expo 2020, and hold bilateral discussions with the leaders of United Arab Emirates,” the statement added.

According to the statement, Kiir was accompanied by the presidential advisor on security, presidential affairs minister, foreign minister, minister of finance, minister of culture, minister of wildlife conservation, and director of external security at the NSS.

According to the statement, the South Sudanese head of state was seen off at Juba International Airport by the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and a number of government officials.
