JUBA-South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called on the citizens to embrace peace and unity in order to live in harmony.

President Kiir made this call during an award ceremony organized by the African Private Televisions’ Union in Juba yesterday.

“Having mentioned what working for peace entails, I am urging all of us to rededicate our efforts at individuals and collective levels to overcome obstacles I listed above, our path of achieving total peace lies in confronting the challenges we faced,” Mayardit said.

Mayardit disclosed that total peace is not something that can be achieved overnight, noting that it is a process that requires sacrifices.

“We all know from our experience that working for peace is not anything easy. We all know total peace can’t be achieved overnight,”

He explained that achieving sustainable peace requires taking painful decisions.

“We know that peace to those who desire it means painful decisions. It means dealing with many challenges and having tolerated hearing the other side,” he revealed.

“Recognition of this nature honored our efforts and aspiration toward a peaceful region. However working for a peaceful country and region is not without its challenges,” he said.
