In his key message during the Ramadan Breakfast hosted by his office at the Freedom Hall in Juba yesterday evening, Kiir admitted that the economy has been very bad because of the fighting.
The South Sudanese president also acknowledged the significant strength the pounds has gained in the recent weeks against the dollars.
“Our economy has become bad because of our fighting, I believe we will recover from it, in the last few days, you have seen from the market that pounds are gaining strength and that may possibly continue,” he said.
He called on South Sudanese to peacefully coexist as one people in one nation.
“Let us listen to ourselves because there is nobody that will come to tell us what we should do, the way that we receive ourselves must show no difference, no Christians, no Muslims, we are all south Sudanese and we must remain together,” he said.
“If there is one criminal here from a group of unknown gunmen who loot people along the roads, let our prayers touch his heart so that he doesn’t cause trouble again,” the head of state added.
Abdulla Barag Rwal, the Secretary General for South Sudan Islam Council called on his fellow Muslim to contribute to peace building in the country.
“As Muslims, we must engage positively and contribute to peace building, we need to start building peace and development across the country and as well provide services,” Barag said.
Last week, Kiir directed the central bank and the revenue generating institutions to continue to ensure that the pound strengthens against the dollar.
