TORIT – The Greater Equatoria Endorsement Rally for President Salva Kiir Mayardit will take place on Saturday, Governor Louis Lobong Lojore said. Hundreds of supporters of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) gathered on Monday at the party secretariat in Eastern Equatoria state’s capital, Torit, to pre-endorse President Kiir as the flag bearer for the 2024 general election.

Governor Lobong, who is also the SPLM chairperson, praised the SPLM supporters and county representatives for attending, emphasizing the importance of traveling to Juba to officially endorse Kiir as the flag bearer for the 2024 election.

“The long-awaited endorsement of the SPLM flag bearer is confirmed to take place next week,” Lobong said. “In December 2022 in Juba, the SPLM National Liberation Council nominated Comrade Salva Kiir Mayardit as the sole SPLM flag bearer and candidate for the 2024 presidential election.”

“The Greater Equatoria Endorsement Rally is scheduled to take place on May 25, 2024, in Juba,” he continued. “I would like to invite all members of the SPLM, SPLM supporters, SPLM sympathizers, and the citizens of Eastern Equatoria State, as well as Equatoria at large and South Sudanese living in the Equatoria region, to turn up in large numbers for this historic event. Let’s show our support and commitment to both the SPLM and our president, Comrade Salva Kiir Mayardit. This event will be recorded in our history for generations to come.”

Lobong added, “The people of Eastern Equatoria State and the Equatorians, Comrade Salva Kiir Mayardit has dedicated all his life to the liberation, freedom, and sustainable peace for the people of South Sudan, from the Anyanya to the SPLA/SPLM. Therefore, Comrade Salva Kiir Mayardit is the Moses who brought us to the Promised Land, which is South Sudan; he deserves our support to take the country forward.”

SPLM state secretary German Ojok called on the community to turn up in large numbers to travel for the endorsement in Juba next week. He urged communities from Eastern Equatoria State residing in Juba to join the state citizens in supporting Salva Kiir’s endorsement.

He encouraged supporters to wear attire symbolizing the ethnic communities of Eastern Equatoria State as they go for the endorsement.

“Today is the day that we want to confirm whether we are ready or not. This is why we are here today, and we have witnessed now that we are ready 100%. So, we are ready as Eastern Equatoria State to endorse our son Salva Kiir so that he should stand for the forthcoming election,” he said.

“This decision started here in Torit Freedom Square. It has also been copied by Magwi County for blessing the initiative for endorsement, including the state political bureau and secretariat endorsing Kiir. Hence, the general citizens remark that anything that comes out of Torit, they are ready. Salva Kiir should stand. So, by all this, the community said they are ready to stand before Kiir as the flag bearer for the coming election,” Ojok explained.

Hellen Orasio Lodura, chairperson of the SPLM Women’s League in Eastern Equatoria State, said women across Eastern Equatoria State are ready to stand with Kiir in the 2024 election and stressed that they can confirm to the entire country that they are 100% ready, noting that Torit alone has been divided into blocks that have raised more than 10,000 supporters compared to other counties of the state.

“We can confirm that women are 100%, and I am sure all our comrades in South Sudan are seeing women in Torit are 100% ready for the Juba Road endorsement in 2024 in favor of Salva Kiir Mayardit. We want to tell our chairperson in South Sudan that women in Eastern Equatoria are ready to stand with him,” said Hellen.
