Kiir’s office adjourns swearing in of lawmakers to next week

Yesterday, a statement by the parliament’s clerk said all lawmakers were ordered to arrive at the Freedom Hall in Juba for swearing in ceremony which was set for 11 AM on Friday, July 30th 2021 which also coincides with the Martyrs Day.

JUBA — South Sudan presidency has issued a statement adjourning the swearing in ceremony of the newly appointed lawmakers despite assurances by the parliament’s clerk that the function will take place tomorrow.

Yesterday, a statement by the parliament’s clerk said all lawmakers were ordered to arrive at the Freedom Hall in Juba for swearing in ceremony which was set for 11 AM on Friday, July 30th 2021 which also coincides with the Martyrs Day.

In a statement this afternoon, the minister of presidential affairs Barnaba Marial Benjamin said the function has been adjourned to Monday.

“In honor of commemoration of Martyrs Day, which falls on Friday 30th July 2021, The Ministry of Presidential Affairs hereby announces that the swearing in of the Honourable Members of Revitalized Transitional National Legislative Assembly, which was scheduled for Friday, 30th July 2021, at Freedom Hall at 11:00 am is hereby rescheduled for Monday, 2nd August 2021,” Marial said in the statement seen by Sudans Post.

“On behalf of His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit, I wish you all a blessed Martyrs Day,” the statement added.
