JUBA, APRIL 17, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) under President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Saturday launched a two-month membership registration campaign in Awerial County of Lakes State.
Solomon Kuol Adol, Awerial County SPLM Secretary General said the party has so far recruited more than 75 new members including two from the National Congress Party (NCP) in the ongoing registration campaign.
“We have started the launching of the SPLM membership registration yesterday (Saturday) in the headquarters of Awerial County which is Mingkaman,” Kuol told Sudans Post in an interview on Sunday.
He said the exercise is in line with the party’s program to consolidate its base in the county ahead of the upcoming election in 2024.
“The launching and registration are about the coming elections of 2024, so the registration started yesterday (Saturday) and during the launching 75 people were registered,” Kuol said.
He said the registration will cover all Payams of Awerial County.
“The registration will start from headquarters to Payams and Bomas of Awerial County. Actually, it will take two months and a half because we have six Payams.”
The party’s Secretary-General urged those who left the ruling party to return in order to prepare for elections.
“SPLM was the only party that brought us out from Arabs marginalization and we should not forget SPLM and without SPLM, we wouldn’t have had this beautiful country,” he said.
“Those who left SPLM should come back to the SPLM because now we are preparing for elections in 2024. So let us turn up for registration, if you are really a member of SPLM come for registration.”
