JUBA – South Sudan’s ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) faction led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit has sacked the secretary-general of its youth wing, after referring to speaker of parliament Jemma Nunu Kumba as the “upcoming president” of South Sudan.

In a statement on Facebook on Sunday, Machuar called for a popular reception for the speaker of parliament Kumba who was coming from Kenyan capital Nairobi where she was elected as the chairperson of East African speakers of parliament forum and referred to her as “upcoming president.”

In a statement yesterday, Simon Machuar Manhkeracnaak, the SPLM Youth League Secretary-General, called for a high-profile reception at Juba International Airport for Kumba who was returning home from the Kenyan capital Nairobi where she was elected as the chair of the East African Speakers Forum.

“I am urging all the SPLM youth to attend a popular reception of our Right Honorable Speaker Comrade Jemma Nunu Kumba, the Elected Speaker of East Africa Speakers’ Forum and the Upcoming President of Our Republic,” l he wrote.

The statement angered the chairman of the SPLM Youth League Daniel Abucha Ali who immediately suspended Machuar for stating that Kumba, who has been a close ally of President Salva Kiir, as the “upcoming president” of South Sudan.

Abucha in the statement extended to Sudans Post and dated November 13, 2022 suspended the secretary-general “with effect from today until further notice.”

Separately, Kumba’s office issued a statement and condemned the referral of the top lawmaker as a potential replacement to President Salva Kiir.

“……. such unfortunate writing does not represent Rt Hon Jemma Nunu Kumba in any way since it was concocted by her political opponents and hired this Machine So called Machuar to say it out,” Kumba’s office said in the statement extended to Sudans Post.

“SPLM leadership is the only legitimate body that has a power to nominate party’s flag bearer as it has nominated H. E Cde. Gen. Salva as the SPLM flag bearer in the upcoming elections,” the statement further added.
