JUBA – President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s Advisor on Security Affairs, Tut Gatluak Manimeh, on Monday called on the international community to support the unity government in disarming the civil populations to mitigate the rampart communal conflict in most parts of the country.
In his remarks during the opening of a people to people peace conference of Jonglei State and Pibor Administrative area, Gatluak stated that disarmament can help to alleviate the rampart security related issues in most parts of the country.
“We want the International Committee and United Nations Mission in South Sudan to support the process of disarmament in the republic of South Sudan so that we achieve peace and stability in all the tens,” Gatluak expressed.
Tut revealed that the rampart killing is happening because of the presence of arms in the hands of civilians.
“For South Sudan to be stable and we don’t get back to tribal conflict again. We must disarm all the civil population if we want to achieve sustainable peace in South Sudan,” Gatluak said.
Kuol Manyang Juuk, senior Presidential Advisor, admitted that the government has not succeeded in disarming civilians.
“We have not succeeded in disarming the civil population although the chiefs have all these long been demanding for disarmament because the chiefs are saying that they are not being respected by the armed youths,” Manyang said.
Manyang said that the government will start moving the people of South Sudan to the right direction.
In July 2020, the SSPDF launched the process of removing guns from the hands of civilians in Tonj North County. This was on the directives of President Salva Kiir.
