This comes one month after President Kiir reconstituted the parliament under the terms of the revitalized peace agreement. Kiir has not yet however sworn in the newly appointed lawmakers raising concerns over the delay.
Several sources have told Sudans Post over the pass days that there is a huge disagreement among senior members of the ruling SPLM faction over decision by Kiir to not appoint lawmakers who were elected during the 2010 elections.
In a statement extended to Sudans Post this afternoon, Dut Majokdit, a member of the SPLM-IO’s National Liberation Council (NLC) urged Kiir to immediately reconstitute the Council of States and resolve internal dispute so that lawmakers who were recently appointed into the parliament are sworn in.
“I making this argent call to reconstitute the Council of States and the swearing in ceremony of the appointed honourable members of parliament,” Majokdit who is currently in Juba wrote on Facebook.
“We urge the SPLM-IG to resolve their internal problems on the nomination process and to allow the current reconstituted parliament to start its business,” he said, stressing that “there are issues to be tackled and addressed by the reconstituted houses.”
