JUBA, JULY 3, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s visit to Western Bahr el Ghazal State’s capital Wau which was initially set for today has been delayed until Tuesday, according to information minister Michael Makuei Lueth.

Kiir was originally scheduled to travel to Wau today, Monday, to launch his campaign for the 2024 elections.

However, Makuei said that the visit has been delayed due to “unforeseen circumstances” in the organization process of the event “because many people even from Juba are going there to attend it.”

Yesterday, a senior presidency official said Kiir will travel to Wau on Monday for a ceremony organized by the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region to celebrate the nomination of Kiir for president in the 2024 elections.

Kiir is the leader of the ruling SPLM party and has been president since independence from neighboring  Sudan in 2011.

In December last year, a SPLM convention nominated Kiir for president in the elections slated for end of the transitional period in December 2024.
