State lawmaker Visor Likali raised the alarm on Friday in an interview with Sudans Post, saying all primary healthcare facilities in the county had run out of essential drugs, including syringes.
He blamed the delay in drug distribution by health partners for endangering residents’ lives.
“The PHCC in Lafon lacks even a single syringe, and people have resorted to using vaccine syringes, which is not safe,” Likali said. “It’s been two weeks since we were told medicine was being distributed to all counties, and now it’s the third week. What went wrong? People are desperate.”
Likali warned Health Link, the organization responsible for drug supply to the county, that it would be held accountable for any deaths caused by the delay.
“I told them they will be held accountable for any deaths,” he said.
The lawmaker urged humanitarian partners to familiarize themselves with Lafon County’s geography, particularly the operational airstrip, to overcome transportation challenges during the rainy season.
“We have a smart airstrip that operates year-round,” Likali said. “If the road is impassable, partners should use the airstrip for quicker delivery of supplies.”
He criticized the slow pace of humanitarian aid, saying it should be more efficient and beneficial to the people.
