“Latjor state is under control” – Gathoth Gatkuoth tells Kiir

JUBA – The recently appointed governor of Latjor state, General Gathoth Gatkuoth Hothnyang, has reported to President Salva Kiir Mayardit that his state is fully under the government’s control.

This happened during a meeting today with Kiir where the state governor submitted a report to the president about the security area.

He was accused this month of mobilizing militia for the government to attack opposition groups active in many parts of the country.

His office had denied any accusations that he was preparing a ground for President Kiir to crash the ongoing rebellion in the world’s youngest nation.

“The President of the Republic, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit met with the governor of Latjor State, Gathoth Gatkuoth at the State House on Tuesday,” the office of the president said in a statement today.

The statement added that the governor “briefed President Kiir on the general situation of Latjor state which he described as calm.”

“He added that the state opened corridors between Latjor and neighboring states to allow the free movement of people and goods.”
