JUBA – A Member of Parliament representing Rumbek East County in yet to be reconstituted National Legislative Assembly has called on the national government to intervene to mitigate communal violence in Lakes State.

The call came after 23 civilians were killed over the weekend in renewed communal clashes in the Lakes State. of South Sudan.

Hon. Dharuai Mabor Teny called on the government to address inter-communal violence if the Lakes State is to achieve lasting peace.

“As MP representing Rumbek East County, I want to register my disappointment with the national government for not supporting the state government to control and minimize the conflict from intensifying,” Mabor told the media during a press conference at the national parliament yesterday.

Mabor also called government to prosecute culprits behind recent killing of 23 people in Lakes State

“Those who have killed people are redundant in the prison without their cases being addressed and those who killed are yet to be apprehended and the state government doesn’t have powers to apprehend the culprits,” he said.

“I called upon the President to acknowledge and prioritize the issues of Lakes State as a national security threat because people of Lakes especially Rumbek East are always in conflict since 2002 up to now and the government has not intervened,” he added.
