JUBA — South Sudan’sFirst Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has declared yesterday’s suspension of the SPLA-IO’s military intelligence director by the group’s military chief General Simon Gatwech Dual invalid urging units to discard the suspension.

This morning, SPLA-IO military spokesman announced in a statement the suspension of the military intelligence director General Dhiling Keah and replaced him with General Marko Liah Chany.

In reaction, Machar issued a statement informing all SPLA-IO units that the suspension is invalid and should only be taken by the commander in chief who is himself.

“I have read in the social media a press statement attributed to the SPLM (IO) leadership written by Brig. Gen. William Gatjiath Deng, SPLA (IO) spokesman about suspension of Maj. Gen. Dhileng Keak Chuol, and appointing of Maj. Gen. Marko Liah Chany, and dissolving all the deployments of military intelligence officers in all sectors, divisions, brigades and battalions,” Machar said in the statement seen by Sudans Post.

“These measures are invalid. it is only the commander-in-chief who can take such measures. as such this press statement is to be ignored with immediate effect.”
